Raised on an early noughties diet of MySpace blogs and mail-order fanclubs, I have amassed well over a decade’s worth of experience as a music and culture critic, writing music reviews, interviews, features and op-eds for publications including NME, The Guardian, DIY, Dork, The Forty-Five, Gal-Dem, Come Play With Me and Readers Digest.Β
At The Forty-Five, I have written a weekly column, Subtweets, which explores the way that music intersects with race, gender, subcultures and the sociopolitical engagement of fans online.
I also write artist bios and record label copy, and have been involved in successful album campaigns for the likes of Self Esteem, Olivia Dean, Yard Act and Sony Records. I have judged panels for PRS Foundation and Music:Leeds early career funding for musicians, and led workshops and panels at music conferences on the art of music criticism in the digital age.Β
Below are some selected examples of my work. If youβre working with an artist or on a project that you think I might be a good fit for, drop me a line!
